Godzilla vs. Spider-Man is the third issue of Marvel Comics' Godzilla vs. Marvel collaboration. It was published on April 30, 2025.[1]

Description

Fresh from the original SECRET WARS (1984), Peter Parker, AKA the Amazing Spider-Man, returns to Earth with a spiffy new (alien) costume without a care in the world except for a complicated love triangle with MJ and Black Cat… and unbelievable pressure at the Daily Bugle… rent… bills… supervillains…oh, and GODZILLA IS IN NEW YORK CITY with all its destructive power aimed squarely at the wall-crawler! Don’t miss the two most popular characters in pop culture history absolutely going at it in this kaiju-sized slugfest for the ages![1]

Plot

A Venom-clad Spider-Man swings through the streets of New York City, happy to be back in action after time away from the city. His return is quickly interrupted by a clash with the Shocker, who fires a blast of electricity while taunting that the black suit is the perfect attire for his funeral. Unfazed, Spider-Man quips back by saying that it shouldn't come as a "shocker" that a "pro loser" like him would say that. Spider-Man expresses relief that he's dealing with a more manageable threat after fighting in a secret war across the universe, where he acquired the Venom Symbiote. He notices that Shocker's Vibro-Shock Gauntlets are being used differently, but he fortunately has an upgrade of his own and points out that Shocker has never quite reached his full potential. In response, Shocker threatens to "potential" the teeth out of his skull and declares that he will show the full destructive force he can unleash, with Spider-Man as the perfect test dummy. The web slinger remarks that Shocker would be dangerous if he spent more time on tech innovation and less on bad branding, which is nothing compared to the troubles he endures in his love life.

A flashback occurs where Peter Parker is happy to see the benefits that his alien black suit brings, such as producing its own webs and instantly transforming into his civilian clothes. Later, Spider-Man has an intimate encounter with Black Cat, who's glad that he's into his attractive new costume and not asking about her new bad luck powers, which she secretly got from the Kingpin. In another flashback, J. Jonah Jameson criticizes Peter for quitting college, reminding him that the Daily Bugle will not be able to compete with Eddie Brock if they keep selling the same stuff. The scene cuts back to Spider-Man's battle with Shocker, where Spider-Man subdues the villain with his webs while calling him a loser, leading him to compare himself to the world's worst boss. Just as he thinks that he has no complaints about life, Godzilla arrives and roars throughout New York while rampaging.

Seeing the destruction Godzilla is unleashing, Shocker willingly surrenders as Spider-Man ensnares him in webs while asking him to vibrate free, prompting Shocker to reflect on his life choices. Spider-Man recalls that he last heard of Godzilla when he was involved in a battle with the Hulk against Hedorah. He knows that there's no point in trying to talk to or reason with Godzilla, who's far above what he normally faces, and the best he can do is help the civilians while waiting for the Avengers' arrival. As Spider-Man notices that Godzilla seems to be searching for something, he realizes in horror that the kaiju is heading towards his apartment, where Mary Jane "MJ" Watson is located. As Mary-Jane looks out the window and realizes the gravity of her situation, Spider-Man calls out to her and tells her to jump. Spider-Man manages to catch her just in time before Godzilla destroys the building, while a panicked Mary-Jane cries out Peter's name. As Spider-Man tries to put her at ease by telling her that "Peter" is likely fine, Mary-Jane reveals that she has already known for years that Spider-Man and Peter are the same person, leaving Spider-Man bewildered. As he drops Mary-Jane to safety, Black Cat suddenly appears and gives him a big hug while asking him if he's injured and calling him "lover", irritating Mary-Jane. As the two get into a small argument which Spider-Man tries to stop, he heads towards Godzilla while urging Black Cat to take Mary-Jane away.

Spider-Man aims to lure Godzilla to the west side of the city, where there's less to destroy. He narrowly avoids being crushed by the monster's jaws, but his symbiote costume dissipates when Godzilla roars loudly. As Spider-Man recovers, the Venom Symbiote completely envelops Godzilla, leading him to realize that the symbiote is a living being and not an alien costume as he previously thought. A psychic connection is established between the venomized Godzilla and Knull, the King in Black, a dangerous godlike figure who was originally tasked by the Celestials to keep the universe in balance but instead chose to destroy it with his army of symbiotes. Even though Godzilla has roamed the Earth since the age of the dinosaurs to protect the planet from those who threaten it, his mind is being overtaken by Venom, causing him to lash out at the city instead as he destroys two nearby fighter jets. As Black Cat and Mary-Jane try to help their fellow civilians to safety while insulting each other, Spider-Man, having covered his face in a green jacket to protect his identity, follows the corrupted King of the Monsters, feeling scared but vowing to stop Venom and Godzilla or die trying. As Venom grows stronger while feeding on Godzilla's energy, Godzilla's fighting spirit tries to resist the symbiote's influence. Spider-Man, now in his normal superhero suit, wields Shocker's gauntlets, which are calibrated to match the frequency of Godzilla's roars, while standing on a circular device to hover in the air. He remembers how his alien suit exploded after Godzilla roared and deduces that it must be weak to sonic blasts. Using the gauntlets, Spider-Man delivers a powerful punch that forcibly separates Venom and Godzilla, while Mary-Jane and Black Cat watches the scene unfold nearby. Injured by the blast, Spider-Man falls down, but is caught by Godzilla and is surprised to see himself sitting in the kaiju's palm. However, their moment is interrupted when Venom, still assuming Godzilla's form, attacks as Spider-Man swings away. Though the symbiote has adapted to become impossible to kill with raw strength alone, Godzilla has also adapted and blasts Venom away with a powerful blast of atomic breath. Spider-Man cheers for Godzilla's victory and vows to always make his suits by himself as the King of the Monsters swims away.

Days after Godzilla's devastating attack, Manhattan is slowly beginning to recover. Amid the wreckage, Eddie Brock discovers the crushed body of a reporter buried beneath the rubble. Spotting the journalist's intact camera, he seizes it, intending to claim their photos as his own, a ploy to sabotage his longtime rival, Peter Parker, just as Peter once ruined him. But before he can leave, black tendrils suddenly lash out from the shadows. Venom, still alive and mutated by his brief fusion with Godzilla, emerges from the darkness. The symbiote ensnares Eddie and drags him into a nearby alley to bond with him. Infused with the monstrous essence of the kaiju, the symbiote transforms Eddie into a towering new terror: Godvenom, a nightmarish hybrid of Venom and Godzilla.
